In 1966, Marie Van Brittan Brown, a nurse, invented the closed-circuit television security system with the help of her husband Albert Brown. The couple invented the device because police response to crime was slow in their neighborhood, and Brown wanted to feel safe while home alone. The device had the ability to see who was at the door and unlock the door via remote control. Brown’s invention was the forerunner for the modern-day home security system.
