Atlanta Mourns the Loss of Longtime News Anchor Amanda Davis

Tributes have been pouring in via social media for Atlanta news veteran Amanda Davis who died Monday after suffering a major stroke while at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The Emmy-award winning journalist was a morning anchor of CBS 46 News in Atlanta, joining the network earlier this year. Davis, who was a television anchor in the city for more than two decades, was anchor for WGCL-TV’s morning news and noon show. Prior to that, she was a reporter and anchor for Atlanta’s Fox affiliate, WAGA-TV. In 2016, she spoke to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution about a DUI arrest and her battle against alcoholism.

Davis, 62, was noted for covering Coretta Scott King‘s funeral and for interviewing President-elect Barack Obama while with WAGA-TV, and  She was the first to host the “Wednesday’s Child” segment.

“I am deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Amanda Davis, an icon of the Atlanta press corps,” said Mayor Kasim Reed. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Amanda’s family, especially her daughter, during this difficult time. Amanda’s smile was known to people across the entire metropolitan Atlanta region. Amanda lit up the screen and forged a bond with her viewers. Her absence will be felt for years to come. During this holiday season, let us be reminded of the need to hold our loved ones close, and cherish every moment we spend with our family, friends, neighbors and colleagues.”
