Army Veteran and Former Miss USA Deshauna Barber to Headline Georgia Military College Speaker Series

Georgia Military College and NewDay USA are honored to welcome Deshauna Barber as the distinguished speaker for the first NewDay USA Leadership Speaker Series event of 2025 on Friday, March 28, at 2:30 p.m. in the GMC Theatre at the NewDay USA Center of Leadership.

A U.S. Army veteran, former Miss USA, author, and motivational speaker, Barber is an advocate for leadership, resilience, and service. She made history in 2016 as the first Miss USA to win while actively serving in the U.S. military, dedicating over 11 years as an Army Reserve officer. She has worked with organizations like the USO, Operation Homefront, and Smile Train, championing support for service members and underserved communities.

Barber is a renowned speaker and corporate leadership coach, captivating audiences with her insights on overcoming adversity, servant leadership, and personal growth. Her book, Pretty Ugly Lessons, provides guidance on self-care and resilience.

Her commitment to service extends beyond the military. In 2019, she became the youngest President and CEO of the Service Women’s Action Network (SWAN), where she championed policies for servicewomen and female veterans. Though she stepped down in 2023, she remains a Co-Chair of SWAN’s Board of Directors and continues to advocate for women’s rights.

Barber’s visit highlights GMC’s mission to develop authentic servant leaders, and aligns with NewDay USA’s vision to inspire students, their employees, and the community at large. This event is open to the public, and we encourage all to attend this powerful keynote address.
