Spencer to guide the institution on local, state and federal government issues
Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) is proud to announce that LaShannon Spencer, PhD, has joined MSM as Vice President of Government Affairs. In this role, Dr. Spencer will report to the Office of the President and CEO and guide the institution on local, state and federal government issues. A dedicated advocate for health equity, Dr. Spencer will be a vital asset as MSM collaborates with external stakeholders to serve individuals and communities in metro Atlanta, throughout Georgia and around the world.
Prior to joining MSM, Dr. Spencer served as a Regional Executive at the American Hospital Association (AHA) for Region 1, where her role involved supporting hospitals and health systems across New England. Before her tenure at AHA, Dr. Spencer served as the CEO of the Community Health Centers of Arkansas. In this capacity, she worked to strengthen healthcare access and build a workforce pipeline for primary care in partnership with medical institutions across the state of Arkansas.
Dr. Spencer has been instrumental in developing strategic plans that have positioned organizations for growth and success in a complex and competitive market. Her collaborative efforts with local, regional and metropolitan strategic partners have led to tangible results in addressing healthcare disparities and social determinants. These results include improved health equity, quality and coordination opportunities.
Dr. Spencer earned a bachelor’s degree from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, a Master of Health Services Administration from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership from the University of Central Arkansas, further solidifying her commitment to advancing healthcare leadership and inclusion in the culture of healthcare organizations.
