The #1 thing you need to do to get healthy is…

By Ramese Long

Fitness has been a part of my life longer than it has not. Believe me, I’m qualified to give you a unique look at fitness and how to achieve the results you desire. What makes my perspective so unique? One, I’ve been in the industry for 22 years; and two, I have been overweight (60 lbs. overweight to be exact). Along with the weight came back pain, knee issues, depression and anxiety. So, trust me, I get it. Always will.

I have known both sides of the coin. What it feels like to be healthy and fit versus depressed and fat.

First, hearing the word “fat” never sits well with anyone, including me. With that being said, I recalled all the times people suggested I start exercising again. I will get into “how” I gained my weight another day, but I will tell you the difference between being fat and fit is literally like night and day.

But, here’s the problem that continues to linger … How do you turn the corner to become fit? One, you must define what your real and truthful version of fit is to you. Now when I say your version of fit, it does not mean being overweight and telling yourself, “I’ll get back on it” as you sit and eat as I did year after year. But, the number one thing you need to do to get healthy is to ask yourself, “Why?”Why are you doing this? You have to tell yourself the truth, again … not beat up on yourself …but tell yourself the truth. Why are you doing this and what is different this time? I know I have said this before and will continue to say it until it finally hits home that you must exercise or you will pay a heftier price (literally and figuratively) at some point in your life.

Let me ask you this…

Why not? Why not begin an exercise program? You know there will be benefit if you simply keep going. Of course it’s hard work, but so is getting up every day to work the hours you do. It’s hard work being calm in traffic as you begin a long arduous day grinding. It’s hard work to raise kids. You know hard work always pays off in the end, if you don’t stop.

Find your reason to exercise and stick to it once and for all. Or keep procrastinating and write your “woulda’, shoulda’, coulda’” biography as you lay on your back with the doctor standing over you…“countdown from 10 to 1.” Zzzzz.
