Theia Washington-Smith, executive director of the City’s new Women Entrepreneurship Initiative explains that the state of the woman in the workplace has as much to do with the structure of workplace environment – via incubators, shared workspaces — and how it is designed to bring out the best in women.

“When you look at some of the numbers around women entrepreneurs in particular who talk about things that they did wrong, or what they wish they knew, if they had the chance to go back and do it again, or what they wish they would’ve had more access to and it’s always interesting to me that it’s never really about money, or more money to apply toward branding, rather it’s always about, ‘I wish I would’ve had a mentor or a community of other women who I knew would support me.’”
