In September 2024, BRP Companies and The Prusik Group revealed plans to redevelop Mall West End into One West End Atlanta, with the mall set to officially close at the end of January. The development team has been actively collaborating with legacy tenants to ensure that the unique essence of the West End is preserved and upheld throughout the transformation.
“We remain committed to fostering an open, ongoing dialogue with the community, ensuring their voices are not only heard, but play an integral role within each step of the project,” said Meredith Marshall, Co-Founder and Managing Partner of BRP Companies.
During construction, several long-standing mall tenants will be relocated to a temporary on-site space at 850 Oak Street, allowing them to continue serving the community through the project’s entirety. The tenants relocating include The Burning Sands, Dendera Cosmetics, True Hair, and American Deli, while Planet Fitness will remain in its current space during the first phase of the project. All of these businesses will also have the opportunity to move into permanent locations within One West End once it opens.
“We understand the deep bond between the West End community and the businesses that have called this place home for years, and we’re inherently committed to maintaining the legacy of these businesses while we create this dynamic new destination,” said Andrew Katz, principal of The Prusik Group.
Alicia Porter, owner of The Burning Sands, is particularly excited about the transition.
“Moving to the nearby space and reopening with a fresh design is all part of making way for a new cultural era with One West End,” Porter commented “We’re grateful to the developers for this temporary space, and we’re looking forward to the next chapter. Big things are coming!”
The development team is also launching a month-long campaign to capture and preserve the community’s memories of Mall West End. Through a digital time capsule, residents and visitors can share photos, videos, and stories that highlight the mall’s role in their lives. These submissions will be incorporated into One West End’s design, ensuring the new development reflects the history of the neighborhood. Community members can share their memories by using the hashtag #OWElegacy in their posts or by emailing attachments to [email protected].
“We want One West End to be more than just a place to shop and live—we want it to be a place that reflects the soul of Atlanta’s West End,” Marshall said.
Once complete, One West End will feature 125,000 square feet of retail, including a grocery store, fitness center, diverse dining options, and local boutiques. The residential component will feature approximately 900 mixed-income residences, a mix of studio to three-bedroom units, with affordable units available to those earning between 50% and 80% of the area median income (AMI). Additionally, the development includes student housing, a planned 150-key hotel, and 12,000 square feet of medical office space.
Phase One of the redevelopment is expected to be completed in 2028.
“This is about revitalizing a community, not just building new structures,” Katz added. “By blending modern amenities with the West End’s cultural heritage, we aim to create a space that honors the past while paving the way for future growth.”
