Atlanta Business Community Celebrates 20 Years of Golfing for a Cause

The George A. Lottier Golf Foundation and Buick were pleased to host the 20th Annual George A. Lottier Scholarship Golf Tournament on Monday, June 1, 2015, hosted by honorary co-chairs Chris Womack of Southern Company and Dr. Shawn Lottier of Comfort Smiles Atlanta.

The event, held at the Country Club of Roswell, is the GALGF’s largest annual fundraiser, with all net proceeds from the tournament and silent auction being earmarked for scholarships to qualified minority students interested in journalism, marketing and graphic design.

This year’s scholarship recipient is Charles Canady Jr., a recent graduate of Howard University where he earned a degree in graphic design. Canady will complete a 10-week, summer internship with Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine’s editorial department, and receive a $1,500 stipend. The Tribune still has one internship available and can be applied for via the Foundation site here. At this year’s tournament, we also recognized some of the past interns who have participated in the Tribune’s program and have gone on to successful careers.

The tournament started at 8 a.m. with breakfast and range practice. Attendees networked with some of Atlanta’s decision makers, received lunch catered by Chick-fil-A, enjoyed beverages courtesy of The Coca-Cola Company and much more.

For those that were beginners or golfers that wanted to improve their swing, the GALGF also hosted a Golf Clinic at 12 noon. Golf Women Mean Business owner, Patrina King, and LPGA Class A Pro, Oneda Castillo co-facilitated a learning lunch on golf etiquette after which clinic attendees hit the driving range for hands-on instruction from PGA professionals.

The friendly competition culminated at the 19th Hole Reception where attendees enjoyed the buffet, received rewards, and bid on items in the silent auction.
