Still dancing?

By Ramese Long

Are your feet still stuck in the sand as another summer has crept upon us? How does that make you feel? More frustrated? More determined? Sad? Angry? Or do you simply “have no clue” how this makes you feel? If you answered the latter then continue to read along.

First, let’s cut to the chase … nice excuse. You know exactly how letting another missed goal sink to the fitness abyss is making you feel. In fact, it has affected you so much that you tap dance around the issue rather than tackle the problem head on so you can move on.

Then come more excuses, justifications and rationalizations. The way we rationalize our issues should amaze us all. For example, so often when referring to our own shape we must use a friend in worse shape to justify the fact we aren’t doing what we need to do to get healthy. I guess we’re all a little guilty of throwing people under the bus.

Once you’ve dusted off those tire tracks you still end up in the same spot  tap dancing around the truth. You will never reach your goal in any aspect of life without telling yourself the truth. Being honest is not continuing to be cruel to yourself by reinforcing negative thoughts and patterns. It is simply doing what you’ve been avoiding which will ultimately lead you to success, and that is confronting your weaknesses.

If you drink too much, modify it. If you snack too much, modify it. If you don’t move, move.

Sooner or later, you will be confronted with the issue of dealing with your health. I recommend you stop tap dancing around the same issues plaguing you year after year, so change can become progress and progress can become momentum, and momentum will become a new way of life!
