Rev. Al Sharpton Weighs In On First 100 Days Of Second Trump Administration As It Continues Assault On Dei, Democracy, And Civil Rights

Notes First Hundred Days Have Been Matched by Hundreds of Setbacks for Nation
NEW YORK, NY (April 29, 2025) — Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of the National Action Network (NAN), issued the following statement to mark the first 100 days of the second Trump administration. In January, as Trump was sworn in at the U.S. Capitol, Rev. Sharpton and NAN held a rally just a few miles away at the historic Metropolitan AME Church in Washington, D.C. It was there that Rev. Sharpton announced NAN would continue to fight for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), voting rights, and other policies Trump threatened to attack, which he systematically has these first 100 days.
“Donald Trump has signed more than 140 executive orders, including actions to gut diversity in federal government, bully the private sector to do the same, erase Black history, erode police accountability, and attack our LGBTQ+ loved ones. Simply put, Donald Trump’s first 100 days are Project 2025 in motion. Let’s not treat these like reforms when they are clear attacks on civil rights many marched and bled and in some cases died for. Our ancestors fought for us to get the right to vote, to be who we are and love who we love, and to learn, earn a job, and get a seat at the table. Every stroke of Donald Trump’s pen is another swipe of the eraser over that history.
This administration has spent the last 100 days emboldening the powerful, while millions of Americans have suffered. Our economy is sinking faster than Donald Trump’s poll numbers, as his scare tactics have forced many of the biggest corporations to back away from their DEI commitments. That’s left Black small businesses, vendors or federal employees with fewer opportunities, Black college graduates with fewer prospects, and Black consumers feel abandoned. NAN will continue to call out those who renege on those promises, as well as stand with those who stand with us.
Donald Trump may have executive orders. He may have the House and the Senate. He may have a conservative Supreme Court that will stand idly by even when he defies their orders. But he does not control our dollars. He cannot stop us from marching. So NAN will march on Wall Street this August 28th to send a message to Corporate America and financial institutions that our buying power cannot be ignored. We have come too far, heard too many commitments, and proved our case for success to go back now.”
